Winemaking

Winemaking, also called vinification, begins with the selection of the fruit, usually grapes, from which you wish to create the wine. Wine can be created from grapes, strawberries, apples, plums and other fruits. Mead is a wine made from honey.
Winemaking can be divided into still wine (no carbonation) and sparkling wine (with carbonation).

Simply, making wine involves fermenting the grapes by adding yeast. This takes 1 to 2 weeks. The yeast converts the sugars in the grape juice to ethanol and carbon dioxide. The next step involves a bacterial process which softens the taste of the wine and may take weeks. Then the wine must be settled and clarified prior to bottling.

We have all of the necessary tools that you will need to get you through this process. Wine making is much easier than beer brewing. The end result is a great product that you will be proud to share with friends at holidays, special occasions, social events, or just dinner! After your first production, you are now a Vintner!
